Include us as part of your legacy

Leaving a gift to Motutapu Restoration Trust in your will

Since 1994, Motutapu Restoration Trust has been working to create a legacy for future generations, establishing a thriving native forest singing with wildlife.

Volunteers like you have raised seedlings in the on island nursery, planted trees, controlled weeds and created habitat for birds such as the North Island brown kiwi, tīeke/saddleback, takahē and pāteke/brown duck. Other native birds such as korimako/bellbird and kākāriki have self introduced on this pest free island. Even kākā are  now visiting the island.

Visitors can experience the biodiversity gains with a walk through planted forest up the Rotary Centennial Track amid noisy tīeke!

Leaving a gift in your will enables the Trust to continue this work into the future. Your legacy can be this special place on Motutapu for future generations.

How do I leave a gift to Motutapu Restoration Trust?

You can leave a gift to the Trust by instructing your solicitor when writing your will to include Motutapu Restoration Trust. It is important to have the full legal name of the trust, Motutapu Island Restoration Trust and our registered charity number CC26065 in your will to make sure your gift reaches us.

General gifts to Motutapu Restoration Trust are the most useful as they give the Trust flexibility to respond to the most urgent conservation needs which vary over time. However, we would be very happy to discuss options if you prefer to support a specific part of the restoration project with your bequest.

You could choose to structure your gift in several ways:

  • Specific sum or assets: Leave a specific sum or asset such as money, real estate, shares, bonds or items such as art work for auction
  • Percentage: Leave a percentage of your estate to support the Trust’s work on Motutapu or
  • Residue: The “residue” of your estate - what is left after other disbursements.

Rather than re-writing an existing will, you may be able to add a codicil with your intention to leave a gift to the Motutapu Restoration Trust.

The wording of a will is very important and it is strongly advised that you consult a solicitor before making or adjusting your will. Simple errors in wording can create confusion and delays in carrying out your wishes.

Thank you for considering Motutapu Restoration Trust as part of your legacy for future generations.
