Motutapu, with its regenerating forest and native birdlife is a wonderful place to visit at any time of the year. You are so close to Auckland, yet it feels like a world away!
If conservation volunteering is your thing, our Weekend Volunteer Camps give you the chance to stay on Motutapu, enjoy this magic place AND give something back to the restoration of forest habitat.
Stay in DOC-style accommodation, do some vital conservation work for 4-5 hours a day (or more if you want!) and then listen to the birds, explore and relax!
We have a range of options for weeding, nursery and planting and can change our plans to suit the group's fitness and age. Although we want to get lots of good work done, we also want you to enjoy your stay on the island.
Bring your sleeping bag, food and enthusiasm, and we will provide:
- Transport to/from Rangitoto wharf
- A bed at the Shearers' Quarters in dormitory style accomodation - 4 rooms with 3-5 beds in each
- Use of cooking and bathroom facilities - including hot showers!
- Any training and equipment required
- Opportunities to explore Motutapu
- Plenty of bird life - including kiwi if you are lucky
Dates for Weeding Camps:
- Saturday 30 May - Monday 1 June (King's Birthday Weekend)
- Saturday 24 - Monday 26 October (Labour Weekend ) - to be confirmed
If you are interested, round up your friends, team, colleagues or whānau and get in touch by email: admin@motutapu.org.nz.
This is a great opportunity to give something back by helping with this forest restoration project, promoting its growth as a habitat for native birds and other creatures.
